- Crank turns without the sash moving, or makes a clicking sound. Worn gears or a stripped crank arm on casement and awning operators. The gears are usually nylon against steel, and the nylon is what goes. It’s a small part, but installed wrong the sash will sag and the lock won’t line up.
- Air or water coming through even when the window is closed and locked. Weatherstripping has flattened or rotted from years of sun and salt, or the frame is slightly racked from settling and the weatherstripping can’t do its job. In a Miami storm, that’s not a draft; it’s a water leak waiting on the next band of rain.

DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely do before calling. First, check whether the problem is dirt: clean the tracks, clear the weep holes at the bottom of the frame (a bent paperclip works), and see if the window improves. Second, write down or photograph any label or etching you can find on the glass or the frame, because that saves us a trip and you a diagnostic fee. Beyond that, window glass replacement is not the place for DIY. A glass pack that comes out wrong cuts someone badly, and a balance spring under tension can send the sash flying.
