PGT Sliding & Patio Doors: The Miami Owner’s Guide

If you own a PGT sliding or patio door in Miami and a roller, latch, or weather seal has failed, we stock the replacement parts and install them same day in most cases. Installed part replacement on a PGT slider typically runs $185 to $560 depending on what failed and whether the panel needs to be pulled and reset. You’ll usually notice the problem as a door that drags after years of running smooth, a handle that no longer throws the lock, or daylight showing through a gasket that used to seat tight.

Call (754) 238-2201

The honest picture: most PGT sliding doors in Miami fail in predictable ways, and almost none of them mean you need a new door. The salt air, the humidity, the daily open-close cycles through the dry season into the wet one. These are workhorse doors. When the part goes, you replace the part, not the frame.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

We stock and source parts for PGT’s aluminum and vinyl slider lines commonly installed across Miami-Dade: the 5500 Series, the 7700 impact-rated series, and the older SGD-560 and SGD-670 models still holding up in hundreds of homes from Kendall to Palmetto Bay. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit is that PGT changed roller housing dimensions between their pre-2011 and post-2011 production runs, and the roller that fits a 2008 SGD-560 will not seat in a 2014 5500 even though the doors look nearly identical from the outside.

Identification is straightforward if you know where to look. Open the door and check the interlock stile, the vertical edge where the sliding panel meets the stationary panel. PGT stamps a white label or etches the series number there, usually about knee height. If the label is gone, we match the part by measuring the roller wheel diameter and the housing width with a caliper. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for PGT specifically, we lean OEM when the part is still in production, because their rollers and locks are built to their exact rail profile. For discontinued hardware, we use quality aftermarket equivalents from Prime-Line and Truth Hardware that our techs have verified in the field. Either way, you see the part and the price before we touch the door.

Signs Your PGT Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The door drags or takes muscle to move. This is almost always a roller failure: the bearings seize from humidity and salt, the wheel flattens on one side, and the panel starts grinding against the track. Left alone, it will wear a groove into the track itself, and then you’re replacing both.
  • The handle sticks or won’t throw the lock. On PGT sliders, the latch and handle are a linked mechanism. When the internal spring in the latch wears out, the handle flops or refuses to catch, and on impact-rated models that’s also a security problem.
  • You can see daylight through the closed door’s edge. The wool pile or fin seal along the panel edges has compressed or rotted. Miami’s UV and humidity break these down faster than in most markets, and once they’re gone, you’re air-conditioning the patio.
  • The door binds in summer but slides fine in winter. This is classic Miami thermal expansion. The frame or the panel has shifted, and either the rollers need re-shimming or the track needs to be re-set square. It’s not the door being difficult; it’s physics.
  • Water tracks across the sill after a hard rain. The sill weep system is blocked, or the sill gasket under the panel has failed. In an August storm with wind-driven rain against an east-facing slider, this is how you end up with wet tile and warped baseboard.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here in Miami, expect an installed roller replacement on a PGT slider to land between $185 and $340 depending on whether we’re doing just the two rollers on the sliding panel or all four plus a track clean and realignment. A latch and handle assembly replacement runs $220 to $420, and a full weather seal replacement around both panels typically falls between $260 and $560 depending on door size and whether we’re also pulling the panels to clean and lube the track.

  • Roller replacement (2 rollers, sliding panel): $185-$280
  • Roller replacement (4 rollers, both panels) with track realignment: $280-$340
  • Latch & handle assembly: $220-$420
  • Full weather seal replacement: $260-$560

Every quote is line-item in writing before work starts. No change orders, no “while we were in there” surprises on the bill. We register both warranty layers in writing, and our workmanship is covered by the Done Right Promise. If it is not done right, we make it right. No paperwork, no arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely do: clean the track with a dry brush and a vacuum, check for obvious debris in the bottom track channel, and tighten any visible screws on the handle. That’s genuinely useful maintenance, and it will sometimes buy you time.

What we’d rather you not do: pull the sliding panel out of the frame to swap rollers yourself. A PGT impact slider panel can weigh over 200 pounds, and the rollers are under tension when seated. If the panel tips or drops, you’re looking at a cracked glass package, a bent frame, or an injury. This is one of those repairs where the difference between a $275 roller job and a $2,800 panel replacement is one slip. Measure it right the first time, or plan on coming back. Call (754) 238-2201 and let a uniformed tech do it with the right lifting gear and the right part in hand.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★

"Had fog between the panes in four windows. They explained the seals had failed and argon was long gone, replaced the glass units instead of selling me whole windows. Honest outfit."

FFrank D.
★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.
★★★★

"Storm door and a new back entry door. Small job, but they treated it like one that mattered. Screws in the hinges are stainless, the sweep actually seals, and the invoice matched the phone quote to the dollar."

VVernon H.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."
